Nashita bint Tajul Islam
Why do we celebrate Eid al-Adha? Eid al-Adha is the story of when Allah (S.W.T) tested Abraham (Ibrahim), if he would slaughter his son Ishmael (Ismail). It all started when Abraham went to sleep. All prophets have a dream, they dream of something they have to do, a mission sent by Allah. Abraham dreamt that he was slaughtering his son, Ismail. Abraham told his son Ismail that he had a dream that he was slaughtering him. Abraham said it was a dream that had to be reality, Ismail didn’t mind because it was a message from Allah. So Abraham and Ismail went out side with a knife and a (knife) sharpener and got into places. Abraham said bismillah and started slaughtering his son. But guess what happened? He couldn’t slaughter Ismail, even when he sharpened the knife. Jibrail came and what did he bring with him? A sheep! It was because he swapped the sheep and let Ismail free, but why? Allah said that Abraham passed his test so he let Ismail off. So Abraham slaughtered the sheep and ate it with his family (obviously they cooked it). This is why we celebrate this lovely festival with all Muslim friends. But not all Muslims can celebrate Eid. Why? Some people are in danger (such as Syrian people) and they don’t have the money or time to do this. There is war, no peace. This is why we are here, we have the ability to tell our parents to send money or essentials to other countries which are in need of it. All people should help the needy to survive.
